MTBco's Second Trail Day of 2008 - Gillard Goes Huge !!!

Posted: May 25, 2008

MTBco's call for help gets great results in big bush cleanup day

An awesome turnout of 35 volunteers worked on Gillard Forest Service Road on access trails to remove a huge amount of garbage. The photos speak for themselves, and MTBco would like to thank everyone who turned out to help on what turned out to be a beautiful sunny Okanagan blue-sky day. You guys rocked the bush today !

This is how we do it Central Okanagan style, every trail starts or ends with a fire pit. In this case, we had a quick burn of all accumulated debris from the shuttle parking lot and removal of nails from the parking area.

The Okanagan roaster:

Start of the day, and we're just getting into it:

Unloading at the shuttle area:

Not just hard work, there was play too ! Free shuttles courtesy of Bush Pilot Biking:

Stay tuned for more clean ups in the future-come lend a hand!

I came off that jump wrong and smoked that tree last year, when it was still standing. Sorry, must have loosened it up.

Anyways, good job on the clean up!

Great Idea ! We should create an international "clean your trail" day. Just as the surfers do.

why is it that some people who live in some of the most amazing places on earth haveno respect for their own back yard? How the hell does a fridge end up on the side of a mountain? or an old TV? I've seen some of the bush parties up there on Gillard and its always a buncha rednecks freakin out. Trying to burn down huge trees or pull em down with their big ass trucks...getting as big a fire as possible going and launching empty beer bottles randomly into the woods....(nothin like painting everyone with a single stroke eh?).

Still thanks to ell for your efforts..the trails at gillard are some of BC's sweetest. I make the trip a few times every summer for a weekend sesh..and it's always worth it.

Somebody should forward this to the local media (Cap news, CHBC, Daily Courier, Castanet.net) Would make for great publicity.
